We currently have over 110 volunteers who donate their time and energy to help make NCTRC possible! Most of our volunteers serve in our weekly riding lessons and therapy sessions as horse leaders and sidewalkers. These volunteers commit to at least one 30 minute session per week which allows them to form meaningful relationships with clients and their volunteer team. During the summer, we offer six weeks of inclusive summer camps that rely heavily on volunteers to create a terrific experience for our campers.
If you are unable to commit to a weekly session or to volunteer in the arena, don't worry! We also need volunteers to assist with events, help with administrative work, and help with maintaining the farm. No matter your availability or interests, we probably have a job for you!
Horse experience is not necessary to volunteer, but is always welcome! Volunteers must be at least 15 years old to volunteer in the arena.
Here are some of the many ways you can volunteer at NCTRC
Sidewalkers are responsible for the client during a therapeutic riding lesson or hippotherapy session. All session volunteers must be at least 15 years old and attend a new volunteer orientation.
Horse Leaders are responsible for the horse during a therapeutic riding lesson or hippotherapy session. In addition to being at least 15 and attending a new volunteer orientation, horse leaders must have at least 2 years of recent horse experience and complete a horse leader evaluation.
