"The amazing
part of hippotherapy is that each step of the horse challenges the rider's balance and sensory system -- and that the horse
takes thousands of steps during a 45 minute treatment session. Having the help of a horse or pony is a powerful
motivator, helping the children work harder and stay engaged in activities, and the children reap the emotional rewards of
coming to know their 4-legged therapist as their friend". --Margie
Muenzer, NCTRC physical therapist.

Hippotherapy
What is hippotherapy? Hippotherapy is a physical, occupational or speech therapy treatment strategy that utilizes equine movement as part
of an integrated treatment program to achieve functional outcomes. In hippotherapy - which is named for the Greek
word for horse, “hippos” - the patient engages in activities on the horse that are enjoyable, challenging
and effective. What are the benefits? Benefits of hippotherapy include improvements in balance, muscle strength,
gait, posture and symmetry, joint mobility, sensory processing and motor planning. In addition, this therapy is far
removed from a clinic or hospital setting and comes with the rich sensory and emotional aspects of the horse and beautiful
farm setting. Hippotherapy
sessions at NCTRC are conducted by licensed and certified physical therapists. The therapists are certified by the
American Hippotherapy Association (AHA), and registered with NARHA. Additionally, they are certified
therapeutic riding instructors. Our therapists work
one on one with participants each week for up to 45 minutes. Horses are carefully selected to be an integral part of the treatment
process. The speed, movement, and direction of the horse is controlled by the therapist to fit the client's needs. How
much does it cost? There are three separate fees as follows: 1. A one-time evaluation fee of $55 2. NCTRC session based on $30 per week (for example,
$300 for 10 week session) 3. Standard therapy
fees charged by your therapist. Where possible, the therapist will directly bill your insurance company for the therapy fee portion
of the cost. Interested in getting started?
